ABSTRACT

Any organization's management highly depends on its human capital. The efficient use of an organization's resources – material, financial, informational, or human – is essential to its smooth operation. Therefore, it is also important to focus on employee and employee engagement. Employee or work engagement is a widely accepted topic. Companies are interested in this subject and work with agencies or attempt to independently assess the level of employee work engagement in order to determine the causes of high or low engagement rates and develop ways to raise it. Employees who work in retail were questioned for this study. The goal of the study is to determine the impact of managers on retail employees' level of work engagement based on their age, gender, and work status (manager or non-manager), A few questions were chosen from a variety of employee engagement measuring tools to assess the manager's influence. On a five-point Likert scale, respondents responded to 11 items in the survey (1 strongly disagree – 5 strongly agree), In order to compare the results after a year, the survey was done twice in Austria, once in May 2021 (during the active Covid-19 epidemic) and once in May 2022. Employees in the retail industry (N = 3047 in 2022 and N = 2535 in 2021) responded to an online survey sent to their company e-mail addresses. The findings indicate a little increase in employee work engagement between 2021 and 2022 of 1.2 per cent. The comparison reveals no significant variations between years and just marginally better or worse answers to a few questionnaire questions. Work engagement grew as a result of the manager's influence by 4.9 per cent in 2021 to an even 79 and by 5.6 per cent in 2022 to 80.9. © Vilnius University, 2002-2023.

ABSTRACT

The economic performance of countries depends on the stages of the business cycle and changes due to various factors and influences. While the economic crisis of 2008 was triggered by financial factors, the crisis of 2020 was caused by factors of a non-economic nature - the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to assess changes in the performance and level of economic activity in the Visegrad Group economies in 2009, 2019 and 2020. This assessment is performed using GDP per capita, magic square and the misery index. In 2009, the best performing country was the Czech Republic and the worst was Hungary. In 2019 and 2020, Poland reached a performance level similar to the Czech Republic, and Slovakia performed the worst. © 2022 Mykolo Romerio Universitetas. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Because of the need to minimise the face-to-face meetings of people, many companies were forced to provide options for remote work or home-office. This is why the goal of the presented study is to estimate the work productivity of individuals during the home office and its comparison with the performance at the workplace. As the research method. a questionnaire survey was carried out in October 2020 and in electronic form addressed to employees in Slovak companies on the surveyed sample of 302 respondents. Based on the assessment of individual determinants influencing the work performance during home-office, the outcomes have shown that due to insufficient technical equipment, there was no significant effect of increasing labour productivity as in other foreign economies.

ABSTRACT

The current global crisis, triggered by the spread of the Covid-19 virus, is associated with the economic slowdown in many countries as well as global economy. The presented study deals with the social and economic impacts of a coronavirus pandemic issue on economic environment within Slovak companies and other organizations. Based on the executed e-questionnaire survey analysis, the main goal of the paper is to assess the opinions of workers in different types of companies, while the key parameter is the intensity of impacts on the economy development. The survey was conducted within the period of 30th September to 14th October 2020, it involved 302 respondents and provides data on how different groups of people perceive the current situation from the status of an employee - women, men, different age categories, inhabitants of individual regions in Slovak Republic. The data assessment output reveals the selected labor market trends in terms of new employment possibilities. At the same time, the paper demonstrates a relatively negative economic period within the Slovak society, while mapping the overall macroeconomic situation in Slovak Republic and world economy, caused by the global covid-19 pandemic outbreak. Results show that the Industry 4.0 elements adequately incorporated into the organization of labor are the correct tools to handle the current economic crisis affected by pandemic outbreak within the Slovak entrepreneurship environment.
